UDYAWAR MOSQUE

Udyawar Mosque is one of the major attractions of Kasaragod (Manjeswaram). It is not just for witnessing the ancient sculpture but also to see the communal harmony that many people visit this mosque in Kerela.

This mosque is an exquisite and a famous marvel of Manjeswaram. It is very crowded on Friday afternoons as the Jumma namaz (religious offerings on Fridays) is held on the day. And Friday is believed to be a very important day for religious offerings in Muslim community so you can find the whole Mosque filled on Friday afternoons.

Udyawar Mosque is believed to be a sacred as many Muslims before going to Hajj (pilgrimage place) visit this mosque. Many religious gatherings take place on several days followed by religious sayings and Naths (religious songs). And people gather so as to learn more about their religion (Islam).

Like any other mosque, you will find prayers being offered five times a day here and Aalim(the one who knows the meaning of the holy book Quoran) or Hafiz(the one who has memorized the whole holy book Quoran) will take charge of the prayers by standing ahead and enchanting the holy scripts in the offerings.

The Mosque has a big hall like structure where all Muslims gather for Namaz(religious offering) and a Wazoo Khana in the open so that they can clean themselves as per the rules of the offerings.

Udyawar Mosque is most famous for the religious harmony which takes place here. Years have passed by, yet the harmony and good relations between Hindus and Muslims have not changed.

There is a very interesting festival celebrated by the Hindus that is in the Komaram Maada Arasu Manijisnar Devasthanam Temple. The invitation of the festival takes place on the first Friday after Vishnu.

And it is given by the Komaram and his corteges (wearing jasmine garland) that is by coming to the courtyard of the Udyawar Mosque that is just after the Jumma prayer. And people who came for the offerings before returning will stand at both the ends in two rows and the leader of the Mosque’s office committee will receive the invitation on every ones behalf.

With a request to help in the festival the Komaram will return with his corteges. The Muslims after accepting the invitation readily come down to the temple to help the Hindus out in the festival proceedings. And will also bring material required for the festival.

Later there is also a festival which is celebrated by the Muslims in the Udyawar Mosque which is called “Uroos”. And this time the Muslims invite the Hindus for their festival and the Hindus accept it and readily help the Muslims with their festival. The Hindus bring oil and ghee along with them which will be required in the Uroos festival.
